66 (B)And some of the clans of the sons of Kohath had cities of their territory out of the tribe of Ephraim. 67 They were given the cities of refuge: Shechem with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer with its pasturelands, 68 (C)Jokmeam with its pasturelands, Beth-horon with its pasturelands, 69 Aijalon with its pasturelands, Gath-rimmon with its pasturelands, 70 and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Aner with its pasturelands, and Bileam with its pasturelands, for the rest of the clans of the Kohathites.

23 The word of the Lord came to me: 24 (A)“Son of man, the inhabitants of these (B)waste places in the land of Israel keep saying, (C)‘Abraham was only one man, yet he got possession of the land; but (D)we are many; the land is surely given us to possess.’ 25 Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: (E)You eat flesh with the blood and (F)lift up your eyes to your idols and (G)shed blood; shall you then possess the land? 26 (H)You rely on the sword, (I)you commit abominations, and (J)each of you defiles his neighbor's wife; shall you then possess the land? 27 Say this to them, Thus says the Lord God: (K)As I live, surely those who are in (L)the waste places shall fall by (M)the sword, and whoever is in the open field I will give to (N)the beasts to be devoured, and those who are in (O)strongholds and in caves shall die by (P)pestilence. 28 (Q)And I will make the land a desolation and a waste, and (R)her proud might shall come to an end, and (S)the mountains of Israel shall be so desolate that none will pass through. 29 (T)Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I have made the land a desolation and a waste because of all their abominations that they have committed.

30 “As for you, (U)son of man, (V)your people who talk together about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, say to one another, each to his brother, ‘Come, and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.’ 31 (W)And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for (X)with lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain. 32 And behold, you are to them like one who sings lustful songs with a beautiful voice and (Y)plays[a] well on an instrument, for (Z)they hear what you say, but they will not do it. 33 (AA)When this comes—and come it will!—(AB)then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

Prophecy Against the Shepherds of Israel

34 The word of the Lord came to me: (AC)“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: (AD)Ah, shepherds of Israel (AE)who have been feeding yourselves! (AF)Should not shepherds feed the sheep? (AG)You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, (AH)you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. (AI)The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, (AJ)the injured you have not bound up, (AK)the strayed you have not brought back, (AL)the lost you have not sought, and with force and (AM)harshness you have ruled them. (AN)So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and (AO)they became food for all the wild beasts. My sheep were scattered; they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, (AP)with none to search or seek for them.

“Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: (AQ)As I live, declares the Lord God, surely because (AR)my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 10 Thus says the Lord God, (AS)Behold, I am against the shepherds, and (AT)I will require my sheep at their hand and (AU)put a stop to their feeding the sheep. (AV)No longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. (AW)I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.

because my foes forget your words.
140 Your promise is well (E)tried,
    and your servant (F)loves it.
141 I am small and despised,
yet I do not (G)forget your precepts.
142 Your righteousness is righteous forever,

The Coming of the Kingdom

20 Being asked by the Pharisees (A)when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God (B)is not coming in ways that can be observed, 21 nor (C)will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”[a]

22 And he said to the disciples, (D)“The days are coming when you will desire (E)to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 (F)And they will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Do not go out or follow them. 24 (G)For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be (H)in his day.[b] 25 But first (I)he must suffer many things and (J)be rejected by this generation. 26 (K)Just as it was in the days of (L)Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 (M)They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise, just as it was in the days of (N)Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building,

Unity in the Body of Christ

I therefore, (A)a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to (B)walk in a manner worthy of (C)the calling to which you have been called, with all (D)humility and (E)gentleness, with (F)patience, (G)bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in (H)the bond of peace. There is (I)one body and (J)one Spirit—just as you were called to the one (K)hope that belongs to your call— (L)one Lord, (M)one faith, (N)one baptism, (O)one God and Father of all, (P)who is over all and through all and in all. But (Q)grace was given (R)to each one of us (S)according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore it says,

(T)“When he ascended on high (U)he led a host of captives,
and he gave gifts to men.”[a]

((V)In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into (W)the lower regions, the earth?[b] 10 He who descended is the one who also (X)ascended (Y)far above all the heavens, that he might (Z)fill all things.) 11 And (AA)he gave the (AB)apostles, the prophets, the (AC)evangelists, the (AD)shepherds[c] and teachers,[d] 12 (AE)to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for (AF)building up (AG)the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to (AH)the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, (AI)to mature manhood,[e] to the measure of the stature of (AJ)the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, (AK)tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in (AL)deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, (AM)speaking the truth in love, we are to (AN)grow up in every way into him who is (AO)the head, into Christ, 16 (AP)from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, (AQ)when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
